How to Open Specific Files/ Documents Using Stream Deck

Open am often used file/ document (specific PDF, Word document, Excel file, etc.). Each day, I access the several files/ documents, once or multiple times a day. These are sometimes fixed reference points (like a PDF I need to obtain information from), or a customized Excel template that I access to populate and re-save elsewhere. With Stream Deck, accessing these regularly accessed files/ documents is easy.

1) In the Stream Deck app/program sidebar (under "System"), find "Open" action.

2) Drag & drop "Open" action onto a blank button.

3) Under "App / File:" click the 3 buttons "..." and point the directory to the specific document you want to open.

  • Tip: name the "Title" so the button on your Stream Deck will display text so you'll know what file/ document the button opens.

Here's an example of a common Excel file I access daily.

4) Test that it works. Simply press the button and it should open your specific file/ document.
